Lutterworth Ecolighting fitted out Blakemore Food Service’s 80,000 sq ft high bay distribution centre in Wakefield with energy efficient lighting products earlier this year. The project covered all areas of the building including office space as well as food storage and distribution areas.

Pegasus Multibay LED light fittings were installed inside -25ºC high bay storage areas for frozen food products. The new fittings have been developed and manufactured by Lutterworth Ecolighting especially for challenging environments such as this. Designed to withstand extreme temperatures and hygienically food safe, their lightweight design and shallow dimensions allow for extra pallet capacity. Less maintenance is also required as the LEDs have an extended lamp life that can last in the region of 50,000 hours.

In chilled and ambient areas, Lutterworth Ecolighting engineers fitted Rackmaster & Hi-Saver T5 luminaires that are also protected against the cold temperatures and any airborne moisture.

Engineers were equipped with specialist clothing to overcome the freezing temperatures and successfully completed the project within eight weeks. Overall, the solution will deliver a return on investment in 1.3 years and annual CO2 consumption has been reduced by almost 245 tonnes.

Michelle Walton, Group Purchasing Manager for Indirect Spend at Blakemore Food Service said: “Lutterworth Ecolighting has taken time to understand our business. Not only have we benefitted from the significant energy and cost savings, but the lighting levels have also dramatically improved. The result is a better working environment for everyone with a lower carbon footprint.”
