Automated warehouse provider TGW is installing a materials handling solution for car battery manufacturer Banner in Linz, Austria. The new warehouse solution will create 10,000 new pallet storage locations for car batteries.

As Austria’s only battery producer, Banner is one of the world’s leading car battery producers and supplies major automotive manufacturers including Audi, BMW, VW, Porsche and Mercedes with original batteries. Headquartered in Linz, the company generated revenues of 232 million Euros in the business year 2012/2013.

To extend its existing storage capacity, Banner will be expanding its logistics facilities with the construction of a new high bay building to safely storemore batteries at the site. The building will contain an oxygen reduction system for active fire protection.

TGW’s scope of supply includes its warehouse management system TGW Commander, plus material flow controls, three stacker cranes and pallet conveyor equipment. The 10,000 storage locations can store up to 60 pallets per hour and 90 can be retrieved. The project is scheduled to go live in August 2014.
