FHG IPP Logipal takes environmental sustainability seriously. The timber used for its pallets comes from sustainably managed forests and is PEFC (www.pefc.org) certified.

Once a pallet’s life cycle ends, the wood is reused for other purposes: chipboard, biomass or bio energy generation. An FHG pallet repair business in Germany heats its halls and drying rooms using pallet chips, saving 15 per cent in gas heating costs alone.

Ingrid Faber, CEO, FHG Group said: “With pallet pooling we can reuse our packaging over and over again. In this way, we can contribute to making our environment healthier.

“Reducing excess transport movements is a daily challenge and improving our performance in this area is a high priority.”

FHG IPP Logipal’s responsible approach towards handling pallets means fewer CO2 emissions and, consequently, a healthier environment.

In addition to pallet certification, FHG  IPP Logipal reduces CO2 emissions by:

• offering pallet pooling, instead of disposable pallets, so that the packaging is continually reused

• reducing the number of transport movements. For example, through FHG IPP Logipal’s collaborative transport services approach, a customer can maximise the use of its transport fleet by utilising excess or sub-optimal capacity for delivering or collecting pallets.

• another way to reduce wasted empty transport mileage is to eliminate transportation between the depot and the customer by sorting and repairing pallets at that customer’s production location.

Environmental sustainability

FHG IPP Logipal, together with its suppliers and subsidiaries within FHG, is committed to environmental sustainability.

FHG IPP Logipal helps improve environmental sustainability by:

• using timber from sustainably managed forests

• reusing packaging

• reducing the number of transport movements

• improving a manufacturing plant’s insulation

• burning wood waste to dry timber

• using scrap wood to repair pallets instead of shredding

• reusing wood as chipboard or in generating electricity

• using paint which is biological and does not contain chemical solvents.
