The high point of 2013 for Kalmar in the UK was undoubtedly the IMHX Show at Birmingham’s NEC where visitors were treated to video presentations and hands-on demonstrations of Kalmar’s latest systems solutions. The interior stand was complemented by a 150 sq metre exterior space where Kalmar’s big hitters – the new DCG heavy-duty forklift, the market-leading TT612d distribution tractor and the DRF 45-tonne reachstacker dominated the skyline.

A new generation

Kalmar’s new G-generation heavy duty forklifts were undoubtedly the industry’s big news story of the year. Breaking new ground in ergonomics and cost-efficiency, and available in capacities from 9.0 to a massive 18.0 tonnes, the G-generation represented one of the fruits of Kalmar’s customer-focused product development programme which draws on over 10,000 users worldwide. The DCG90-180 range features many of the technological advancements which users said they would like to see.

A primary requirement was the best possible working environment for the driver. Kalmar embraced this need with all the dedication users have come to expect – and unveiled the revolutionary EGO cabin which was the star feature of Kalmar’s IMHX display and will eventually feature on all Kalmar machines.

A new, stress-free working environment

Enhanced ergonomics and visibility inspire greater driver productivity, efficiency and safety. A new, spacious open design with curved front and rear windows provides exceptionally good all-round visibility. High capacity wipers provide over 90 percent surface coverage of the front window, and integrated roof wipers maintain good visibility and safety, even under extreme weather conditions.

Solid safety-cage construction with profiled beams that eliminate blind spots, side-tilting steering wheel, comfort pedals, rotatable and fully-integrated Kalmar seat and optional full climate control, all combine to maximise operator comfort. This makes the EGO cabin a safe, luxurious and flexible working environment which can be tailored exactly to the driver’s needs – and remove a major source of fatigue-induced stress.

TT612d-323T9507Continuing to lead – the Kalmar Distribution Tractor

Kalmar is the world’s leading manufacturer of terminal tractors, delivering more than 57,000 units globally over the years. This vast experience together with in-depth technological expertise, innovative R&D and close co-operation with users, are all reflected in the TT612d which ensured that Kalmar continued to break new ground in this sector of the market.

The TT612d distribution tractor is designed to improve productivity by moving trailers quickly, safely and efficiently within distribution depots across all industries. Recognising that the driver is key to maximum performance and efficiency, Kalmar applied its vast development resources to produce a trailer-mover with leading-edge features that provide a safe and comfortable place to work.

The ergonomically-designed driver’s cabin features a unique windshield and side glass configuration with no A-pillars to provide unsurpassed all-round visibility. Kalmar’s unique tall-cab concept with only one low step separating cabin from rear deck makes for a safe and easy access to the trailer connections, while efficient insulation from noise and vibration plus a fully-adjustable, sprung seat complete the picture of a stress-free working environment conducive to efficiency and job satisfaction.

Completing the picture

Kalmar DRF 45-50 tonne-capacity reachstackers continued the company’s successful sales performance during the year. Designed to provide fast and efficient intermodal capability in applications demanding flexibility and low operational cost, DRF reachstackers handle with aplomb the transfer of containers and trailers between varying modes of transportation – road, rail and water. Operator comfort is guaranteed by a state-of-the art, air-conditioned and noise-insulated cabin.
