As a busy year ends we look back at the big stories from 2013 and present overviews from expert commentators. Our Review also shines a light on innovation and excellence, showcasing the leading manufacturers and service providers in the different industry sectors.

As The Review confirms, 2013 was a brilliant year for UK warehousing and logistics, showing major progress all round. This sense of renewed confidence was borne out in March at IMHX, the industry’s flagship UK show. Afterwards James Clark, Secretary General of BITA, the
co-organisers, described visitors as upbeat about business prospects and ready to re-invest. Since then we have noticed a growing optimism in the industry, with company after company telling us about strong order books and customers increasing spending. Further heightening the mood, in November the OECD confirmed UK economic activity had picked up and broadened, and predicted stronger investment and consumer spending in 2014.

The UK’s certainly got the logistics infrastructure to deliver the growth. November saw London Gateway, our newest container port, welcoming its first vessel. In the North East the Port of Tyne, the UK’s fastest growing major deep-sea port, has broken records three years running for cargo volumes and financial performance. And around the country investment continues in warehousing and logistics operations in business parks and distribution hubs nationwide, with more to come.

Going into next year Warehouse & Logistics News will continue to lead as the industry’s only fortnightly title and number one publication, bringing you the latest news, the big stories and in depth reports from the major shows. Happy reading, and here’s to another great year ahead!
