Union Industries, the market leading manufacturer of high speed industrial doors, has been getting a warm reception for its Eiger freezer door at a major industry event in Turkey. The West Yorkshire-based company recently exhibited its Eiger Door at the 36th annual TurkeyBuild exhibition in Istanbul following increasing interest in the ground-breaking freezer door from markets across Europe and around the world.

The Turkish market has been of particular focus for Union Industries after it took part in a Trade Mission in 2012, organised by the Hull Chamber of Commerce.

This visit led to the establishment of a two-year exclusive partnership agreement with a well-established Istanbul-based door agency, Famer Mühendislik, to become a seller, installer and service provider for Union’s range of High Speed Doors.

Alongside this agreement, Union has been escalating its presence in the European market, particularly through its Eiger Door on the back of Turkey’s expanding cold chain sector.

Union’s rapid roll Eiger Door provides a superior alternative to the traditional sliding insulated type doors. The door works to maintain temperatures utilising its high speed opening and closing operation. The innovative dehumidification process, which prevents ice build-up on the door blade, frame and workings, helps eradicate snow and ice forming around the opening and on the floors.

After opening at approximately 1.6 metres per second, the Eiger Door closes automatically after a short dwell time, which allows for continuous traffic flow without compromising the freezer temperature.

Warm air ingress into the freezer is drastically reduced, meaning companies can also benefit from the energy saving aspects of Eiger Door due to reduced cold store defrost cycles being required.

Alan Hirst, Sales Director of Union Industries, said: “The combination of Turkey’s growing cold chain sector and the country’s high regard for British manufacturing has created real opportunities for Union Industries. The agreement with Famer Mühendislik will play a part in securing a proportion of the Turkish market. On top of which, the country is a good gateway for export goods into other parts of Europe and also Asia, which is why we were keen to build a presence for the company at TurkeyBuild.

“The country has a strong economy that has not been affected really by the global recession and, at the same time is seeing an evolution of its food industry.”

Alan added: “Traditionally in Turkey people eat fresh food so there hasn’t been much of a market for frozen food. But that’s changing and younger Turkish people are increasingly eating frozen food.

“Because of this change within the sector there was a lot of interest in our Eiger Door at the exhibition. Due to its innovation and quality of manufacture there is no reason why it will not become a more common sight at facilities in Turkey and beyond.”
