Following the launch last year of its low-cost, high-performance B-EX4 premium industrial printer range, Toshiba TEC has joined forces with Unique ID, manufacturers of the MAC (Mobile Application Cart) Powered Workstations, to provide a truly mobile printing solution for warehouse environments.

The robust new workstation allows barcode printing and label printing applications to take place anywhere by mobilising the Toshiba B-EX4 series, via a steel construction trolley complete with integral, rechargeable 240 volt battery, which can operate for up to 12 hours under normal usage.

Combined with Toshiba’s B-EX4 thermal printer series, which are proving extremely popular given the low cost of ownership and consistently high performance at top speeds, the MAC solution is helping customers in busy, fast-moving industrial environments to streamline printing applications, increase efficiency and boost productivity.

Comments Paul Reynolds from Toshiba TEC: “When speed and efficiency are integral to the success of a business, a portable printing solution is a must.  It reduces the distance that operators have to walk to pick up labels, for example, enabling those labels to be created at the point of production, packaging, or shipping, reducing delays to a minimum and, therefore, giving less room for error.”

Trials of the combined MAC/Toshiba solution have shown that a typical customer could save more than 1,400 man hours per annum on getting labels. That equates to a typical saving of more than £16,000!

The B-EX4 Series of printers provide additional savings, having the lowest power consumption of any industrial printer on the market.  A 600m ribbon – the longest on the market – is featured as standard, leading to fewer stoppages, media changes and storage requirements, and further reducing the overall cost of ownership (an 800m ribbon is available, far exceeding the industry standard of 450m).

Historically, mobile printers have been subject to limitations on the number and size of labels that can be produced. With the Toshiba B-EX4 Series customers have no such issues, the premium system being ideal for multiple printing requirements and offering a print width of 104mm and a top speed of up to 304mm per second.

The robust steel workstation is the first UK-manufactured product of its kind with a powder coat finish and industrial rubber wheels that can negotiate a cross dock without getting stuck in the gap. It can be tailored to accommodate other equipment such as computers alongside the printer and is ideally suited for a wide variety of warehouse applications such as pallet labelling, cross docking, logistics, receipt and order management.
