End-to-end international logistics service provider Torque has proved its fitness to be reappointed for a further five years by women’s sports clothing retailer Sweaty Betty.

Truck-with-sun

Sweaty Betty, whose mission is “to inspire women to find empowerment through fitness”, has renewed the arrangement after employing Torque since 2007. The multiple award-winning client has 32 UK boutiques, including concessions in top London stores Selfridges and Harrods, plus catalogue and online businesses.

Torque supports Sweaty Betty’s retail and e-commerce business, servicing stores and web orders to the UK, Europe and the US. The supplier now provides a full service, including importing goods, storage, despatching and returns processing. Torque also delivers a “pick and pack” service, receiving various products, processing them, extracting the relevant goods for each forwarding destination and re-packaging them.

During the initial five years of its relationship with Torque, Sweaty Betty’s business has grown from an original forecast of 400,000 units a year to a predicted 1.2 million for 2013.

In addition to handling this volume, Torque has integrated its warehouse management system to provide the client with a flow of real-time information, enabling it to update its system promptly. Among other benefits, this enables Sweaty Betty to process credit card payments as soon as orders are picked.

Torque also issues comprehensive automated reports to the client on a daily or weekly basis, detailing pre-agreed key sales, storage and delivery information. In addition, the company’s systems are now linked to Sweaty Betty’s US website, which allows orders to be processed quickly and seamlessly.

The logistics specialist also provides software to make possible bar coding and specialised printing of swing tags – those attached to garments, containing information such as the manufacturer and price – for all the client’s products. In addition, through Torque’s updated systems, consumers purchasing via the web now have the option of gift wrapping, as well as special messages. People buying presents receive invoices and products are delivered to recipients, with desired bespoke special messages.

Torque also provides an option for next day service on all Sweaty Betty orders and an industry leading pick accuracy, as an essential part of its service.

Mark Smith, Finance and Operations Director, Sweaty Betty, said: “As a fast growing company, we require flexible logistical support to accommodate the changing needs of our business, especially in terms of both increased volumes and new operations, such as shipping orders to the US.

“In addition, as a premium activewear brand, we require our customer experience to be second-to- none, which includes accuracy of inventory and deliveries. I’m pleased to say Torque has fulfilled all these requirements and more, and is an important partner in our growth story.”

Stewart Firth, director, Torque, said being involved with such an entrepreneurial and dynamic company as Sweaty Betty continued to be really exciting for Torque.

He said: “The fact we’ve played some small part in the company’s ever-growing success is testament to a shared commitment to service and mutual respect for each other’s expertise, as well as our own people and innovative systems, which have helped Sweaty Betty keep its customers happy.”

Torque is an independent company with sites in Leeds, Bradford, Heathrow, and Wigan.
