Grange Fencing Limited, based in Shropshire, has bought Paragon’s advanced routing and scheduling software to optimise routes for its home delivery operation. The Paragon Multi Depot solution with integrated INRIX-based road speed data will help Grange to enhance the efficiency of its new ‘Super 8’ UK home delivery service which it provides to its garden centre and large DIY retail chain and building supplies partners.

Grange supplies a wide range of products, including fencing panels, garden gates, pergolas and other structures. Demand for its products fluctuates according to the seasons and weather conditions; therefore, efficient home delivery planning is essential for maintaining excellent customer service. For example, following the recent flooding there has been an upsurge in orders for fencing panels, posts and gravel boards. In the summer, there is also a substantial increase in orders as consumers are busy working in their gardens.

“At Grange, we take pride in our products and service and the demand for orders to be delivered direct to consumers is growing. Therefore, our investment in Paragon logistics software is a logical step in enhancing our home delivery offering for our customers. The software will completely automate our home delivery operation and with the INRIX road speed data we’ll be sure that our transport plans are accurate, cost-effective and achievable from the offset,” says Paul Millman, Operations Director, Grange Fencing.

Grange launched its ‘Super 8’ home delivery service at the beginning of February; an initiative where the team is committed to fulfilling all home delivery orders within 8 days.  “Our newly launched delivery service relies on the robust routes that the Paragon system produces for our operation,” adds Ian Jackson, Logistics Manager for Grange.  “Using the Paragon software we can give customers a two-hour delivery window at the same time as improving vehicle utilisation.  Just being able to manage and plan our drivers more productively in this way saves us both money and time,” he concludes.

The INRIX-based GB road-speed data option enhances the accuracy of Paragon optimised transport plans. These accurate road speeds are defined at road link and directional level and are based on Paragon’s analysis of billions of actual observations. This data brings real-world accuracy to Paragon-generated routes making them more acceptable to drivers because the trips are more realistic and achievable, and delivery times are more reliable, thereby boosting customer service. Schedules that are more accurate also eliminate slack in the daily planning process, leading to improvements in fleet utilisation and overall cost reduction.
