Dürkopp Fördertechnik – the market leader in the provision of garment conveying and sortation equipment – is demonstrating its pioneering Rolladapter sorter bag system to visitors at this year’s IMHX. For the first time at IMHX, Durkopp will be sharing a stand – 20D30 – with parent company Knapp.

The Rolladapter technology enables both hanging garments and flat goods to be carried together on the same system. It is already in use at well known UK retailers such as Next and is set to be installed at Glasgow-based ACS Clothing – the largest dress hire group in Europe.

The system, which can carry goods such as shoes, toys, books, CDs and mobile phones, is set to be of huge benefit to firms involved in the order fulfilment and e-commerce sectors.

Annette Sommer, Dürkopp Fördertechnik’s general manager in the UK, said:

“Previously, the picking of hanging and flat goods had to be done separately which was labour intensive and also liable to be error-prone. Now, for the first time, flat goods and hanging garments can be simultaneously processed together as part of one order. Speed is also a requirement and this system can process 10,000 items an hour.”

The bag – which has a stainless steel frame – is filled by an operator via specific induct stations which supply the empty bags and, following the filling process, collect them automatically. The operator simply passes the articles over a scanner and the information can then be constantly tracked through the bag’s unique RFID transponder.

The Sorter Bag is helping German logistics specialists the Fiege Group (a European third party logistics company) to handle the global distribution of a total of 2.5 million items a year made up of some 14,500 different workwear products.

The Dürkopp team will be on hand to discuss the advantages of the Rolladapter system and other Durkopp products such as their trolley and sortation systems which have just been installed as part of a multi-million pound contract for Sainsbury’s at their National Distribution Centre for Clothing in Bedfordshire.

Other companies using Dürkopp conveyor systems include Next, Marks and Spencer, ASDA, John Lewis, Primark, Aurora Fashions, Debenhams, Inditex/Zara and H&M.
