Weybridge, UK – 25th March 2013 – CHEP, a global leader in pallet and container pooling services announced today it has signed a three-year contract with Brett’s Transport to become their preferred pallet provider delivering almost 150,000 pallet flows per year. Brett’s Transport is based in Wisbech, Cambridgeshire and offers full logistics and warehousing services to a wide range of customers specialising in ambient deliveries to the retail, food service and food manufacturing sectors.

CHEP and Brett’s Transport have an existing relationship that spans almost 20 years. This agreement makes CHEP the only pallet supplier across Brett’s Transport operations and will primarily support the container devanning operation in Wisbech, where imported containers arrive for unloading and palletising before the goods are either warehoused for storage or dispatched for onward transportation to wholesale and retail networks.

Brett’s Transport cites flexibility; supply chain cost reductions and increased operational control as reasons for participating in the CHEP Managed Exchange Service Offer. This program will allow Brett’s Transport to collect trade-quality pallets upon delivery, or pick up at any designated site around the country at a later time.  The organisation anticipates easier collections with better transport utilisation and a 90% reduction in the need to collect new issue pallets.

Granville Evans, Financial Director for Brett’s Transport said:  “As a business, we realised that we needed to have a better degree of control over what is a critical operational area. We must be in a position to be able to demonstrate to our customers that we are able to provide a professional and cost effective overall service of which the provision of pallets is a key element. In order to help us achieve this, we were able to negotiate a long term agreement with CHEP which safeguards both parties’ interests.”

CHEP UK & Ireland Managing Director, Howard Wigham, said: “This is a great outcome for both parties, and one which we’re very pleased about.  Given CHEP’s widespread acceptance across the UK supply chain, the area of container devanning is one in which we can add an enormous amount of value for companies like Brett’s Transport.  We’re very well placed to help businesses store, move and protect their goods throughout the supply chain in a cost effective, safe and environmentally friendly way and I think this new agreement underscores that.”
