The recently launched, Cat® NPP16-20N2 pedestrian pallet truck has been nominated in the Ergonomics category of the FLTA excellence awards 2013.

Ergonomics play a key role in the design of all equipment developed by Cat® Lift Trucks, as operator comfort and ease of operation have the two fold benefit of improving safety and reducing operating costs.

These new pallet trucks combine a careful blend of power and performance to maximise productivity and minimise whole life costs. Recognition of the truck’s qualities by this nomination is a testament to the design work involved.

Sturdy chassis construction and endurance tested forks deliver the reliability you expect from Cat® Lift Trucks, reducing maintenance needs and downtime, even in the toughest environments.

With lift capacities of 1.6, 1.8 and 2.0 tonnes, each of the new models benefits from smooth AC drive technology, reducing energy consumption and giving precise drive control. An ‘eco’ mode that reduces travel speed, to ensure the smoothest possible handling, also further reduces energy use.

The sealed chassis and waterproofed electrics resist moisture, dirt and corrosion, which helps to reduce maintenance downtime and extends the working life of each truck.

Productivity is also enhanced as the smoother AC drive and the new ergonomic tiller arm make these trucks easier and more precise to operate. Combined with faster acceleration, due to the excellent traction characteristics, more loads can be handled per shift. Operator comfort is enhanced, due to the oil filled transmission that keeps noise levels low and optional, large lift and lower levers can be specified allowing for one handed control, even when gloves are worn.

The design excellence seen with this new pallet truck is applied equally to all equipment from Cat® Lift Trucks. The EP13-20(C)PN(T) range of 48V, 3 and 4 wheeled, counterbalanced electric lift trucks is another good example.

Though designed to be robust enough to operate indoors and out whatever the weather this range also offers class-leading levels of driver comfort and ease of operation.

These trucks have a deep wide step, and the lowest step height in their class. A clear floor allows easy, uncluttered access from either side and leaves plenty of foot-room for the driver. A large entry window is achieved through the design of the high visibility head-guard adding to the driver’s ease of access. A comfortable seat, familiar layout of pedals and clear instrumentation all help to reduce driver fatigue and enhance safety.

Good engineering and high quality design not only provide a safe working environment but also help to reduce downtime and increase operational efficiency. A big plus for any business.
