Pall-Ex has announced a significant increase in its European pallet volumes since launching a dedicated service for the continent. Adrian Russell, Managing Director of the palletised freight network, talks to Warehouse & Logistics News about the rise.

We unveiled our European offering back in the summer, providing deliveries to 38 countries. During the first full month of operation, there was a 30 per cent increase in Europe-bound freight, compared to the same month in 2011.

It represents significant progress in Pall-Ex’s European growth plans, which also include the launch of individual networks in key countries. With Pall-Ex Italia, Pall-Ex Iberia and Pall-Ex Romania up and running, Pall-Ex France and Pall-Ex Polska will launch early next year, with interest levels already high.

I believe that the latest figures show that the network’s approach is right and that this increase in pallet volumes shows that there is a need for a dedicated, fast, reliable and cost effective way to export one or two pallets of freight across the continent.

The service is benefiting both domestic and international customers, providing them with an efficient solution at a time when budgets still remain very tight. This is stimulating growth for our UK members as they are able to add European distribution to their existing offering and use it to attract new business.

Trade between countries helps stimulate growth and this new analysis gives us even more confidence to push forward with the overall plan of creating a full Pan-European palletised freight network.

Our pricing structure is also bringing a new approach to the continent, with costs for Pall-Ex Europe calculated on pallet size rather than the traditional weight and dimension matrix, bringing clear benefits.

This means that, for customers, it is the same for them whether they send a pallet to Slough or Seville. In addition, the service fully integrates with Pall-Ex’s TWINE IT system, allowing customers to take advantage of real-time track and trace and online proof of delivery.

The list of countries included in the Pall-Ex Europe service also include Turkey and Russia, so it is very comprehensive.

For us, the overall Pan-European network goal is still firmly on track and we are currently in talks to form networks in Germany, Benelux, Scandinavia and beyond.
