Nedpack has been nominated for the Logistica Award. The nomination by the panel of experts represents a reward for the success of this innovative product elevator, which is now used worldwide in companies from diverse sectors. ‘The Prorunner mk5 is cheaper and more compact than other vertical transport and sorting solutions and therefore results in new vertical sorting applications,’ according to the report of the jury. The prestigious innovation prize was awarded at the end of the first day of the Logistica trade fair on 13 November.

The Logistica Award counted no less than seventeen entries. Of these, the six-member jury, headed by Prof René de Koster of Erasmus University Rotterdam, nominated three innovations for the award that was presented on 13 November in the Jaarbeurs convention centre in Utrecht. With its Prorunner mk5, Nedpack stood a chance to win not only the jury award, but also the audience award, which will be presented simultaneously.

As the jury said in their report, even though the latest generation of the Prorunner mk5 has only been on the market one year, hundreds of them have already been sold. ‘The product is cheaper and more compact than other vertical sorting solutions, resulting in large market potential and short payback periods. The product is supplied as a complete building kit via system integrators, who implement the product in a total solution,’ said the jury. The jury also emphasised the innovative drive system. ‘What’s unique about the system is the mechanism that keeps the product in a horizontal position throughout circulation. Both upward and downward product flows are possible within the same system, which expands sorting options. The drive system is patented’, according to the jury.

Paternoster lift with patented drive system

The Prorunner mk5 is an application of the ancient paternoster principle for vertical product transportation. Traditional product lifts are limited in capacity and infeed and outfeed options. Moreover, they can only transport products up or down. The Prorunner mk5, on the other hand, can move products up and down simultaneously between different levels in three directions. The unique, patented system allows products to remain lying down throughout circulation.

The new generation of the Prorunner mk5 that was introduced in 2011 has also been further improved. Total cost of ownership has been significantly reduced through continuous development and the product’s modular design, thus increasing its market potential compared to other vertical transport systems. The basic model of the Prorunner mk5 is already available from € 6750, including infeed and outfeed conveyors, and safety fencing.

Vertical sorting or buffer system

Thanks to its versatility, the Prorunner mk5 is not only used in production and packaging lines, but also in vertical sorting systems in warehouses and distribution centres. For example, warehouses with multiple mezzanine floors for order picking, where hundreds of different products need to be transported from one floor to another and back again in different directions. Vertical buffer system applications have also already been designed and implemented.

The Prorunner mk5 is already being used by system integrators such as SSI Schäfer, Egemin, Dematic, TGW, Savoye Logistics, and Beumer. The product elevator is being used by end customers such as Unilever, Nestlé, FrieslandCampina, Xerox, Procter & Gamble, Abbott, Staples, and Haribo.
