A major challenge for both in house and third party logistics and transport operators delivering to, or collecting from, flat floor sites is the safe and efficient loading and unloading of products.
Lifting equipment specialist Transdek has produced the innovative V2G (vehicle to ground) modular loadhouse lift, which provides the ideal solution to overcome this issue. Representing a major breakthrough in loading bay technology, the surface mounted hydraulic lift has the capability to load or unload all goods vehicles to ground level.
In the case of new build projects, the V2G opens up fresh opportunities for architects, specifiers and contractors in the planning of service yards at retail and distribution sites, with the potential to simplify designs and to gain significant savings in terms of space, cost and construction time.
With loading speeds equivalent to raised docks and dock levellers, the V2G offers the possibility to re-think conventional design formats, keeping the service yard on a single level. This eliminates back of store or distribution centre dead space, which could be more cost effectively used to increase the selling area or storage capacities.
Furthermore it avoids the unnecessary expense of between £40,000 and £240,000 that it frequently costs on civil engineering works for the installation of vehicle pits or raised docks.
The system can also be easily retrofitted, as the V2G’s unique design enables the cost-effective conversion of flat-floor loading bays for the efficient and effective servicing not only of standard, single deck vehicle fleets, but also all types of double deck trailers.
The award winning British company has an in-depth understanding of all loading scenarios. Its project management team provides a comprehensive site survey, with feasibility studies, to determine the most appropriate solution for the loading of specified goods vehicles.
“If required, we can provide a complete design, build and installation service, including warehouse and dock modifications to optimise vehicle access and product flows, as well as fast, simple levelling of systems on uneven service yards,” explains Leon Butler, Operations Director at Transdek.
Typically installed within a single day and with minimal disruption to time sensitive on-going product movements, the pre-clad, self-contained loadhouse units are constructed to integrate into existing warehouse structures. They can also be offset in the distribution yard, or installed freestanding in the warehouse.
The system has already been installed at 100 stores for one of the UK’s leading supermarket chains to enable deliveries from its expanding double deck trailer fleet. A recent project involved Transdek designing and engineering a bespoke warehouse extension that incorporated a V2G for Manton Eggs, one of the UK’s largest egg processing companies.
