When leading ice-cream manufacturer Fredericks Dairies needed to expand their warehouse facility, they wanted an ecologically friendly, efficient and cost effective logistics solution for their – 28ºC environment that could store at least 13,000 pallets with 600 pallets movements per eight hour shift – quite a challenge, especially within their restrictive building guidelines.

RediTechniX, which is a division of RediGroup, accepted the challenge when other suppliers said it couldn’t be done.

RediTechniX already knew that traditional systems such as VNA, crane systems and mobile racking simply couldn’t achieve the brief and created a revolutionary new automated solution. Combining the patented RediLogX (with OptilogX inside) pallet buffer and sequencing system with ASRS technology, RediTechniX were able to deliver the results demanded by Fredericks. Using this system, the storage density of a warehouse can be increased by up to 90%* whilst reducing the annual running costs by a similar amount. This innovative answer exceeded Fredericks demanding brief and provides storage for 13,500 pallets.

RediGroup’s Managing Director, Andrew Forsythe, knew RediTechniX could achieve Fredericks’ goals; “This was a challenging brief to say the least, but I knew we had the technology and industry knowledge to make it work. We not only delivered what Fredericks wanted, but the building has nearly 95% utilisation floor to ceiling meaning adverse costs are lowered and the building had a massively reduced overall carbon footprint.”

RediTechniX integrated vertical/ horizontal transporters, conveyors and shuttles within the RediRack welded system and combined this with WCS software that integrated directly into a Warehouse Management System; thus allowing for complete control from a single workstation. Pallet throughput is therefore massively increased by the system’s ability to deliver the retrieved pallets to the operator in the order they are required to floor level. All this reduces the need for material handling equipment and associated operating costs.

Terry Haigh, Operations Director at Fredericks Dairies is delighted with the result; “We needed to make maximum use of the space we had and the RediLogX system maximised the storage within the static racking RediRack installed. This meant that we got 13,500 pallets with this system against RediRack’s nearest competitor which was only offering 9,500 pallets. I was very confident in their ability to produce this on time and within budget and that’s exactly what they did.”
