Tens of millions of items of clothing are exported each year from Asia to Europe and retailers and logistics partners continually struggle against the spiralling costs and inflexibility of the traditional methods using sea containers to handle hanging garments, either by single use of installed hanging bars – which must be removed after each voyage – or maintaining a fleet of pre fitted containers, thereby losing the flexibility offered by standard container leasing.

UK based Sunrise Global Innovations Ltd has invented an innovative solution to this problem, which has been enthusiastically received by the biggest clothing importers in Europe.

The Sea-GOH is a collapsible pallet system eight of which fit into FEU, permitting clothing to be hung on rails at user defined heights or strung in configurations to match the type of garment – the loading operation taking place either at the site of manufacture for subsequent loading into containers, or after pallets are loaded into containers. On arrival at the destination – normally a retailer distribution centre – pallets can be speedily offloaded, permitting a swift container turn-round, and enabling filled pallets to be unloaded in the retailer’s premises, or shipped by road to sub-distribution points.

Once unloaded, the pallets are collapsed and returned to the point of manufacture. Up to 70 collapsed units fit into a FEU. The green credentials of this approach have received much praise.

The use of the Sea-GOH method results in many benefits for the user, including the economy of greater container capacity; garment handling flexibility enabling rapid decanting, cross docking and mixed hung/strung loads; flexibility in choice of loading/unloading locations and timings.
