Welcome to the 15 January Warehouse & Logistics News, our first issue of 2012. Happy New Year to you! We hope you all had a great Christmas break and are refreshed and ready for a new year with fresh challenges and chances to shine.
In this issue we have exclusive interviews with Ancra Systems, Beumer Group, CSi Industries and M-Netics, and regular features on Doors & Curtains and Conveying & Sortation, plus the latest industry news and all our regular sections.
But before we introduce any of that, we have the sad news that John Chalkwright, one of our dear colleagues, passed away just before Christmas. Known as Chalky to his many friends in the materials handling and publishing industries, John joined Warehouse & Logistics News in 2005 as a senior salesman. He brought to the business a warmth and enthusiasm all his own, which even tough conditions could not dim.
Chalky was fond of using the word ‘phenomenal’ in pitches, but it also applied to him. He was well known and much loved in the warehouse and logistics industry both here and in Europe. You’ll find our tribute to Chalky in this issue on page 3. He will be sorely missed.
As Chalky would tell you, January takes its name from Janus, the Roman god of beginnings, transitions and doors. So what better time for our feature on Doors & Curtains, including industrial doors, curtains and roller-shutters? We also have a feature on Conveying & Sortation, covering automated materials handling equipment and IT solutions.
In the first of our interviews, we profile Ancra Systems BV, the leading specialist in the field of automatic truck loading and unloading systems, or ATLS for short. Ancra offers both standard and customised ATLS solutions, geared to different industries and calculated to meet customers’ specific logistics requirements.
BEUMER Group is an international leader in the design, manufacture and installation of automated handling solutions for the post and parcels sector, as well as customers in a number of other industries, through its two branded companies, Crisplant in Denmark and BEUMER in Germany.
CSi Industries are worldwide specialists in the supply of pallet conveyors for warehousing and logistics, and fully integrated material handling systems to handle FMCG products from single pack to pallet.
Finally M-Netics, the mobile technology solutions expert, has existed for less than a decade, but in that time has made its reputation as the developer of pioneering and leading edge software such as the IM2 Enterprise Mobility Suite, ISIS Retail products, and Quantum products.
Happy reading, and as Chalky would say, have a phenomenal month.
