Global mechanical and electrical drive and automation specialist, Lenze, has awarded a €4.3million contract to TGW Logistics Group for the design and installation of automated warehousing systems at its expanding assembly and logistics centre in Asten, Austria.

Due to continued growth and increasing customer orders, Lenze is to significantly increase operational capacity at Asten. By Autumn 2012, assembly and application processes currently outsourced to Germany and France will be undertaken at the site, by which time the logistics centre at the facility will be doubled in size.

As a trusted supplier to Lenze for over ten years, TGW Systems Integration was appointed to design and implement automated storage and retrieval (ASR) solutions within the extended facility.
These included the installation of two mini-load ASR machines and three high-bay ASR machines that can reach up to 20 metres in height. Four pick and pack zones will be served by both tote and pallet conveyors, which will transfer products to the end of the assembly line for finishing.

To ensure optimum performance of the materials handling systems, all the mechanical equipment will be controlled by TGW’s CI_LOG warehouse management software.

“Our new logistics centre is the third of its kind in Europe and will benefit our customers considerably,” says Marco Gattringer-Ebner, managing director of Lenze Austria.

“TGW will install specialist storage and handling systems that will enable us to undertake more processes on site and efficiently accommodate the increase in volumes.”
