Valspar (UK) Corporation relies upon an installation of loading bay equipment from Stertil Stokvis to ensure safe and efficient operation within an Atex Zone 2 area at its manufacturing and distribution site at Deeside in Flintshire, Wales.

Established in 1806, Valspar has established itself as the world’s largest coatings supplier to the metal packaging industry. Valspar expanded into Europe in 1996 and currently has six manufacturing sites across Europe, including two in the UK.

Atex Zones are areas which must be protected from effective sources of ignition and are classified into numbered zones: 0, 1, 2 for gas-vapour-mist and 20, 21, 22 for dust. Equipment and protective systems to be used in zoned areas must meet specific regulatory requirements. Atex Zone 2 classification relates to the installation of equipment and machinery and Stertil Stokvis was chosen to supply loading bay equipment which would fully meet the requirements of the directive.

The Deeside operation sees an average of 25 trailers and container vehicles a week arriving to load and unload palletised drums and IBCs. The equipment supplied and installed by Stertil Stokvis included a six tonne capacity telescopic lip dock leveller – type XP22-21, a WI fully-inflatable dock shelter, a roller shutter door, specially-extended PE dock bumpers and a Combilok vehicle restraint system.

“Due to the location of the loading bay at the Deeside site, full compliance with all Atex Zone 2 requirements was essential,” says Paul Thomas of Valspar Europe. “We had confidence in Stertil Stokvis as our equipment supplier because of their long experience and reputation for quality and reliability. Their pricing was competitive too!”

Stertil Stokvis has over 40 years’ experience in loading bays and dock areas and is internationally known as a specialist in its field with a clear focus on quality, both in design and production, to ensure years of trouble-free operation. The company is regularly involved in planning from the early stages of a project, to help ensure that all regulatory and environmental requirements are met.
