We all read with interest articles regarding investments in Energy Efficiency and low carbon footprint technologies by major retailers and industry giants. Whether through renewable energies or controlling energy waste, it is without a doubt a very hot topic.

Unfortunately, such topics as battery and charger energy consumption are rarely considered when renewing truck fleets, but the energy consumption of fork lift trucks for a national warehousing fleet in any given year could run into millions of pounds in electricity alone. So simply opting for a more efficient system will save a major fleet user potentially hundreds of thousands of pounds over a contract period, as well as the associated carbon reduction.

Driven by the industries that Benning supply across the globe, the commitment to lowering energy consumption and carbon footprint in all industry sectors is a focused priority to Benning and its customers. Within Benning R&D, all means of energy generation are considered and tested, and viable concepts are developed into commercially acceptable products.

Without exception the new HF charger range from Benning is proving to be the “must have” product in terms of lowest energy usage with the highest efficiency and lowest carbon output.

Benning have developed energy saving calculators to ensure customers are fully aware of their current fleet energy costs and in turn the benefit of Benning products in terms of costs and carbon are highlighted.

HF chargers require forced air through fans in order to keep the charger cool, and this air is blown over the delicate electrical components.  Just like televisions of the past (if you have ever opened the back of a television), the main board attracts all the air borne dust. This dust, even in the cleanest environments will contain conductive material or corrosive acidic particles from the battery, and so the effect is PCB failure. (95% of failures due to PCB breakdown) The effect of this failure is clear. Truck down time and un-happy customers.

The critical point is that Benning have eliminated the PCB failure due to conductive air and so increased the reliability of HF technology through a unique technology improvement. As well as improved reliability, Benning have a HF charger of unrivalled efficiency, offering of course lower energy costs and that all important reduction of carbon emissions.

After 2 years in development, Benning very successfully launched the new HF charger (BELATRON) at IMHX in November last year, and the uptake since its launch has been significant. As well as its efficiency ratings and carbon saving, Benning are producing a product with a 10 year design life.

All in all, Benning have produced quite a unique product, eliminating PCB failures and truck down time, reducing service costs and increasing HF quality and reliability.  Given the demand for HF, this product is a significant leap forward in charger technology and carbon reduction.
