Dental Directory, the U.K.’s leading distributor of dental healthcare products turned to I-S Solutions U.K. Ltd, a market leader in automated material handling systems to help with a large expansion to its order picking and stock replenishment system at its 50,000 square foot distribution centre in Witham, Essex.
After seeing first hand the capabilities and high quality, I-S Solutions together with Dental Directory chose the highly respected UNI-XU™ range of conveyors from the U.K.’s largest conveyor manufacturer, Conveyor Units Ltd.
The system involved switching from the existing conveyor system and re-routing orders to a newly developed unit, incorporating ten pick stations over two levels, which incorporated a newly built mezzanine floor.
The system was designed to handle both standard plastic totes and cardboard boxes with weights ranging from empty up to a maximum of 25Kgs., based on a 1500 product per hour throughput.
In order to eliminate total line pressure, the system was designed using 24 volt roller and Micro-V belt roller technology, offering the customer a low maintenance and energy saving solution, as the 24 volt rollers operate only when a tote/box is in its zone.
The system was built within five working weeks from order placement at Conveyor Units’ large conveyor manufacturing unit in Stourport-on-Severn, Worcestershire, which employs in excess of one hundred people. I-S Solutions completed the mechanical install, interfacing with the existing system and all electrical control work within six working weeks from conveyor delivery.
Paul Clarke, Operations Director at Dental Directory commented, “From the out-set at enquiry stage, I-S Solutions have proved to be a very professional company. We quickly formed an excellent working relationship, with I-S Solutions offering us many different options, all of which would enable our requirements and objectives to be met.
At all times we were kept constantly up to date with all project developments. The main body of conveyors, (in excess of 300 metres), were installed in approximately twenty working days.
Within a further ten days, these conveyors were operational in terms of full product testing and commissioning, which made the eventual integration into the existing system over one weekend, go extremely smoothly and without problems. We are also absolutely delighted with the high quality of the conveyor equipment chosen and used on the project. Every section arrived fully built and tested and from a maintenance point of view, is extremely user friendly as the quantity of spare parts we need to carry for this system is very low in comparison to other conventional conveyor types. We were absolutely delighted to receive a system of such high quality that is actually manufactured totally in the U.K.”
