SCA Hygiene Products UK Limited has renewed its multi-million pound contract with Norbert Dentressangle to distribute its Tork brand for three more years as the companies work in partnership to improve efficiency and reduce CO2 emissions.
The Tork brand offers a complete range of Away From Home (AFH) hygiene and cleaning products (such as handwiping tissue, toilet paper and soap) and support services for industry, education, food service and the healthcare sector.
The company is part of the giant Swedish group SCA, which manufactures a range of personal care products, packaging materials, publication papers and solid-wood products in more than 90 countries. One of its targets is to reduce its carbon footprint by cutting carbon dioxide emissions by 20% between 2007 and 2020.
Norbert Dentressangle Transport Services works with the UK AFH operation to maximise order processing, scheduling and delivery efficiency through its nationwide shared-user network of 12 distribution centres. Consignments are collected from SCA’s international distribution centre in Skelmersdale, with around 15,000 deliveries made per annum to 850 locations.
The majority of orders are despatched to leading suppliers and wholesalers of cleaning and hygiene materials. Customers include Bunzl, Cannon Hygiene, Arco and Lyreco. Direct deliveries are also made to the NHS and British Airways.
Paul Oliver, Regional Business Logistics Director at SCA Hygiene, said: “Utilising Norbert Dentressangles national transport network has transformed the distribution process by optimising vehicle loads and continuously analysing order profiles, such as frequency and destination.”
Originally appointed in 2006, Norbert Dentressangle immediately restructured the operation by removing eight dedicated vehicles and switching to a full shared-user solution. Pallet configurations were changed to enable double stacking, which significantly improved vehicle utilisation and efficiency.
Oliver commented: “Over the last four years we have developed a close working partnership with Norbert Dentressangle, which has focused on cost containment and customer satisfaction whilst also helping to reduce CO2 emissions. We are committed to reducing the carbon footprint across our business and this is a positive step in the right direction.”
SCA Hygiene also uses SHARP (Shipment Handling and Reporting Program), Norbert Dentressanagle’s bespoke IT system, to monitor orders in real time.
