UPN going for green with hub relocation

david-brownUPN, the leading pallet network, has announced plans to relocate its hub and network services operations to help support growth and further improve its green credentials.

The new hub will be located at Fradley Park in Lichfield and will open at the beginning of August 2010. The new facility will allow UPN to double its capacity from 3,000 to 6,000 pallets per night and reduce the road miles travelled by UPN members by over 70,000 miles per annum.

David Brown, UPN Director, explains the move, “UPN has been a real success story over recent years and has maintained consistent growth levels. Like any business, we constantly look for new ways to improve efficiency and support our growth. A detailed analysis of our operations demonstrated that relocating the hub to a more central location would allow our members to reduce their costs and significantly improve our green credentials, which is vital in the current climate. The recession has forced many businesses to focus hard on the bottom line, so demand for our services is expected to continue growing.”

The company acquired the premises at the beginning of April and development work will commence on the new site in May. David continues, “We are making a significant investment in the new facility and intend to begin operations before the 1st August 2010.

martyn-chapmanMartyn Chapman, UPN Chairman and founder, adds, “Markets continue to become more competitive and it is vital that we continue to drive our business forward in a pro-active manner. The new location will provide members with improved access to the motorway network, saving them time and money, whilst further improving the efficiency of the network. UPN will also become a much more attractive option for 3PLs and larger organisations, who are increasingly seeking partnerships with pallet networks. I am grateful to all UPN depots and staff, whose efforts have allowed us to thrive in such a tough recession and I look forward to the next chapter of growth.”

UPN was established in 2001 as a provider of high quality next-day delivery services for smaller consignments of palletised freight. The company operates a national network of over 60 UK depots, all focussed on delivering the highest quality service available. UPN is widely recognised as the technology leader, because of its advanced real time and web based IT infrastructure, designed to improve freight visibility and customer service.
