appledore-turkeys-014Faced with adhering to the Plastics Materials and Articles in Contact with Food Regulations UPM Conveyors has revolutionized the handling of food with their all plastic Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMWPE) construction belt conveyors which meet the new regulations.

Roy Fowler of UPM Conveyors Ltd comments: “Although we still offer traditional stainless steel conveyors, most new conveyors are made in UHMWPE as they meet the new regulations. We have invested £100,000 in a fully automatic router which can accommodate 3 metre by 2 metre sheets of UHMWPE and allows us to produce any belt conveyor configuration quickly and at considerably lower cost. For fresh meat and poultry the belt would normally be supplied in a polyethylene material and is generally a link type configuration, but for frozen foods it would be Acetal allowing operation to minus 40 degrees C or lower. The new regulations made us look at all the possibilities before designing our new conveyors in UHMWPE, and during the design process we enhanced the conveyor so that it incorporates a channel either side of the conveyor wall. In this design the belt locates and is guided in the track which eliminates the need to track or tension the belt.”

upm-logo-newUPM report a very successful first half year in 2009 with orders received in excess of £2000, 000 for major product handling system installations in the UK and Europe where the euro exchange rate has resulted in UPM offering very competitive prices and all aspects of manufacture are carried out in-house including fabrication; programming and control build allowing complete control of quality/inspection and maintaining delivery promises.
