A highly innovative site layout now operational for one of the leading builders’ merchants in Wales is making full use of a cost effective design from Polypal. The site in Llantrisant, operated by Leekes Building Centre, features a ‘drive-thru’ section that is designed to simplify product selection and payment procedures for its trade customers, and utilises Polypal’s racking design in a series of ‘pods’.
“A key part of our Llantrisant site, the concept uses a number of U-shaped storage areas, or ‘pods’, within which a wide range of building material is located,” comments Leekes’ DIY and Decorating Business Manager Lee Tiffin. “Customers can now select and collect products as their vehicles move through the site and then use exterior till points – all of which makes the purchasing process as simple as possible.”
The ‘pods’ have been built using Polypal pallet racking as a support structure, clad to all three sides and roofed with galvanised steel sheeting. With the addition of a front face plastic curtain the structure is fully rain proofed and provides dedicated storage and product protection at a much reduced cost when compared to a traditional steel shed.
“The versatility and structure of our design is ideally suited to this type of application,” comments John Drake, Business Development Manager at Polypal.
“It is significantly less expensive than building a warehouse and then racking inside it, while the structure is also totally demountable and can be relocated should the business require.”
The 33,000 sq.ft. Leekes yard in Llantrisant reflects the innovative approach taken by the group and one that demonstrates its commitment to developing business in both the immediate and long term future. The company’s work with Polypal follows on from a number of other installations undertaken by the racking supplier for the organisation, and is seen as an excellent demonstration of both the storage system design and Polypal’s commitment to working closely with customers to meet precise, cost effective installation objectives.
