chazWelcome to the 15th June issue of Warehouse & Logistics News. TIMCON President John Dye told TIMCON’s recent AGM that he was ‘cautiously optimistic’ that the decline in demand for timber pallets is slowing. In his speech Mr Dye reckoned there are signs that the bottom of the market may be in sight, an indication of recovery to follow.

If you don’t trust the pallets, you can always try the astrologers. That well-known management consultancy company Russell Grant Astrology Ltd sent us a release saying growing numbers of UK business owners have been calling psychics for advice and guidance on how to limit the losses, and psychics and astrologers are working hand in hand with financial directors. So don’t be surprised if your MD gets out his crystal ball or starts reading the cards!

We also interview DX Business Direct’s MD Ian Cummings, the man leading the transformation of one of the UK’s leading logistics businesses. DX Business Direct, the specialist courier company, was born last September after DX Group bought Business Direct Group’s In-Night secure parcel logistics operations. This month, June 2009, sees DX Group formally introducing the new-look DX Business Direct at the 2009 Mail & Express Delivery Expo.

DX Business Direct continues to grow in the present climate through its development and refinement of ParcelXchange, the UK’s largest network of ‘intelligent’ drop boxes. These combine with the company’s expanding In-Night pre-8am logistics service to provide secure support for field engineers and service personnel relying on time-critical parts and equipment for their customers. As part of the DX profile we’ve also got a case study in this issue on DX’s work with Jungheinrich as their spare parts supply chain partner.

Also in this issue, our exclusive series on the History of the Fork Lift Truck, has now reached its fortieth instalment.

Finally, we have the long awaited return of one of our most popular features, Quote-Unquote. The first person to be profiled is Matt Doughty, Sales &?Marketing Manager at Structure-Flex Ltd, who make dry bulk and bulk liquid packaging, commercial vehicle covers and more.
Happy reading.
