cimg-cut0792Couzens Storage Solutions has appointed Tony Busby as Project Manager to help cope with increasing levels of interest in its range of storage carousels and lifts. Formerly with industry leaders such as Dexion and Megamat, Tony is an experienced manager specialising in all types of storage and order picking equipment and systems. The company has been marketing and installing bespoke vertical and horizontal carousels, paternosters and lift systems in the UK for almost 20 years.

Couzens has seen the volume of enquiries for its systems growing strongly despite the economic downturn, as more businesses need to make radical improvements to space utilisation and storage productivity.

Interest is high for the type of storage, handling and picking performance provided by Modula, a computer controlled vertical lift system designed to handle a wide range of small to medium items in a single unit. Features such as a two-tray delivery system and fully integrated pick-to-picture software are typical of the innovative concepts aimed at improving productivity and stock management.

At the other end of the spectrum, TowerMat is designed to provide an effective storage and handling solution for materials such as metal sheet, bar, profiles and sections, as well as tooling, jigs, cable and other heavy, awkward items.

Other recent developments include biometric security systems that use the latest fingerprint-scanning technology to provide various levels of controlled access to authorised personnel. Currently offered on a number of products, biometric security is attracting interest from companies storing high value and vulnerable items such as electronic components, pharmaceuticals, IT consumer goods or even jewellery.

illustrationManaging Director Keith Couzens explained why he believes the company is in such a strong position despite the economic downturn.  “Carousels and lifts can cut the space needed for storage by more than 80% – which is the kind of step change that in tough times businesses sometimes need to make – something we have found to be very much the case during past recessions. As an example, two of our carousels enabled a small engineering company to install two additional CNC machines – a move that would otherwise have been impossible without relocating to larger premises.

Enquiries are coming from all types of businesses, from Utilities to Oil explorations companies, from Pharmaceuticals to the Military, so we need the experience that Tony can bring to the task to ensure we can take full advantage of the current situation.”
