Troax’s modular steel partitioning system, Sabre, has been used to create an extensive series of workstation areas in the new 55,000 sq ft Gateshead factory of Turbo Power Systems, a leading designer and manufacturer of high performance electric motors, generators, drives and power electronics.
The new workstation areas are located in the main production facility of the company’s Power Electronics Division where equipment such as auxiliary electric generators and battery chargers are developed and manufactured for major customers, many from the rail and aerospace industries.
Murray Services, who carried out all the internal fitting out of the new facility, including the installation of a mezzanine floor, office partitioning, shelving and all the storage systems in addition to using Troax’s Sabre single skin partitioning to divide the main electronics manufacturing area into individual workstations. The dividing walls keep the processes carried out at each workstation separate and prevent cross-contamination which can occur between different procedures.
Sabre’s modular design and choice of materials was an important advantage for this project as the barriers (which reach a height of 1.5 metres) were constructed from steel with the upper section finished in glazed Sabre panels; this creates a lighter and more open working environment for staff that would have been impossible using just solid panels. In particular, it prevents the claustrophobic, ‘caged’ effect that can be created when just solid panels are used to segregate working areas in large premises.
