wkr0004.jpgFree Kits for FLT Operators to Encourage Better Care of Trucks to Improve Productivity and Reduce Damage Costs. Briggs Equipment is providing free kits to forklift truck operators as part of its national “We Can Handle It” campaign. The campaign aims to get more drivers to take ownership and care for their trucks to help increase the safety and productivity of businesses during these tough economic times.

Research undertaken by Briggs shows that forklifts are not receiving the proper care and attention needed to reduce damage costs and increase safety and productivity. Over half of the companies surveyed agree that forklifts are often misused, and Briggs has found that this can result in damage bills corresponding to as much as 20 per cent of their fleet operating costs.

“To many people these findings will not come as a complete surprise,” says Tony Rooney, sales and marketing director at Briggs Equipment. “The reality is that performance, productivity and even safety will all be impacted by truck neglect”.

Nearly all respondents in the Briggs survey agreed that proper care and maintenance of fork lift trucks by operators reduces accidents and damage and increases productivity. And fleet management reports show that businesses can save up to 10 per cent in fuel consumption alone when operators take care over their driving.

Although there are many operators that do prioritise FLT safety, the “We Can Handle It” campaign hopes to educate businesses on best practise as well as giving operators the opportunity to interact within a dedicated social networking site and participate in a fun competition.
As part of the campaign, the free kits aim to raise awareness of best practice as well as highlighting the dangers, ultimately encouraging operators to take appropriate action and ownership of their forklift truck. The kits include:

  • A wall chart of the forklift daily check routine and safety information
  • A certificate declaring their intent to look after their truck.
  • An “I Can Handle It” t-shirt and handy kit bag.
  • A video on FLT safety and mini guide to FLT care and maintenance.
  • Full details of how to get involved in the campaign.

The “We Can Handle It” campaign also has a Facebook page, “Forklift Heroes”, featuring videos and photos, and a blog – www.wecanhandleit.net – which includes regular advice and information about the appropriate care and maintenance of trucks with a chance to win a holiday.
