lissadell5.jpgLissadell, the manufacturer and distributor of high quality towelling products, supplies some of the world’s most prestigious hotels and spas with its range of bathrobes, towels and bed linen. A recent move to new premises amalgamated storage, distribution and administrative facilities under one roof, and prompted the search for efficient and cost effective handling and storage procedures. An Aisle-Master articulated forklift was found to be the ideal solution for the company’s requirements.

Until the move to the new site in Dundalk, General Manager Marc Wynne had always outsourced the logistics side of the business, so he was on a steep learning curve when it came to getting the most out of the 12,000 ft2 warehouse facility. As other Lissadell sites were being scaled down, his priority was to create as many pallet spaces as possible in this area.

Marc initially looked at conventional VNA trucks, but realised that this system came with a lot of added requirements, and therefore costs, such as the need to install floor sensors. As VNA trucks are also confined to the warehouse, another type of truck would have been needed to work in the yard for loading and offloading purposes. “Luckily,” as Marc puts it, “Damien Murray from Aisle-Master came to our assistance, and we realised that the Aisle-Master’s articulated design and versatility was going to be our solution.”

The electric Aisle-Master now in place can work in aisles almost as narrow as a VNA truck, and the extra versatility it offers more than outweighs savings of a few centimetres here and there according to Marc. Installing racking around the operational capabilities of the truck has achieved an optimum storage density of 800 pallet spaces. The cost of an extra outdoor truck has also been saved as the Aisle-Master transitions easily from the warehouse to unpaved yards.

“It couldn’t have worked out better,” says Marc of the handling system now in place. “Its manoeuvrability and versatility make the Aisle-Master a great truck. The manufacturers also pulled out all the stops to get the truck in place as quickly as possible as they knew we needed it in a hurry. The drivers find it easy to operate, and the good visibility makes for safer operation.” Lissadell has just received one of its largest contracts ever from a new hotel in Dubai with over 2,000 room suites, so the implementation of these efficient new procedures could not have been better timed. The company and in particular the warehouse can now ensure that supplies keep up with demand.

The Aisle-Master range is designed and built at the company’s dedicated manufacturing facility in Co. Monaghan, Ireland, and exported around the world. This top quality articulated product is available with electric or LPG power. Aisle-Masters can work in aisles of just 1.75m, with capacities of up to 2.5 tonnes and lift heights of up to 12.5 metres. Electric models now all incorporate AC technology as standard. Aisle-Master design engineers also offer a site visit and warehouse layout service and supply free layout proposals illustrating how to maximise the use of available storage space.
