pps.jpgPPS Equipment Management was recently awarded a contract to wash plastic pallets used in the transport and storage of large diameter rolls of metallised films and laminates. Manufactured by a multi-national group, these materials are utilised in a wide range of food, technical and industrial packaging applications, including bag-in-a-box packaging for syrups and drinks. Whilst the plastic pallets were in good condition they had acquired a layer of dust and grime that had built up over a period of time and become ingrained, making it difficult to remove by handwashing or other conventional methods.

Using samples of the used plastic pallets, PPS undertook successful wash trials at their state-of-the-art high-pressure wash plant at Measham, just off junction 11 of the M42. The trials were overseen by the customer and as a result a contract was placed for the whole fleet of pallets to be washed over a period of time to remove the ingrained grime. The clean plastic pallets are then dried and shrink-wrapped to be returned to the customer and to ongoing service.

Director of PPS Equipment Management, Iain McArthur reported, “PPS Equipment Management’s core business is the rental and management of Returnable Transit Equipment (RTE) and the wash plant was primarily set up to wash its own pool of plastic pallets and crates. However as planned, the bespoke high-specification wash equipment is so efficient, it enables us to offer excess wash capacity to any third party requiring the service, either as a one-off or on-going wash facility.

The new wash lines installed at PPS have successfully washed crates, attached lid boxes, collapsible crates, plastic pallets and even certain wheeled dollies.

But rather than taking our word for it, we offer any customer the opportunity to bring RTE products along and we will demonstrate the effectiveness of the wash facilities and finish achievable on their own product.”
