For more than 25 years Mitsubishi truck keeps Manchester firm from getting in a pickle. After 25 years of service, most employees would be looking forward to retirement. But at Manchester’s Descaling Services, one of the longest-serving workers isn’t ready to stop working yet. The firm’s Mitsubishi FD20 counterbalance truck, bought in 1982, has been a true workhorse. As the company’s only fork lift truck, the FD20’s reliability and easy serviceability aren’t just desirable qualities – they are absolutely necessary.
Working with corrosive pickling acids and chemical descalers may have affected the FD20’s looks, but that’s not a problem for Assistant Works Engineer Paul Warburton who joined the company 15 years ago.
“She might not look very good on the outside, but it’s not looks that count. Our Mitsubishi has been long-lasting, strong and robust. She’s put to the test every day and – looks or no looks – she always passes.
“She’s a real pleasure to drive – easy to manoeuvre, dependable and still comfortable after all these years. She’s definitely taken a lot of the hard work out of our lives.
“Since I first arrived at Descaling Services I’ve been responsible for servicing the fork lift. It’s incredibly easy to maintain and is rarely out of action. In terms of maintenance as well as driving, I would rate it a 7 out of 5. It’s truly marvellous.
“When the time comes to think about replacing our FD20, we will definitely stick with Mitsubishi. There’s no reason to go anywhere else.”
