An improvement notice issued to a customer in 1998 led to Jeannie O’Beirne speaking to Petroleum Officer Ken Pringle about how training in the industry could be improved. The result was the Safe Depot Operations course and it has been running twice a year ever since.

Using the Tyne & Wear Fire and Rescue Service’s expert trainers and their state of the art fire-fighting training centre at Barmston Mere, near Sunderland, delegates from companies such as Total Outre Mer have been trained in how to tackle fires at oil depots and on tankers.
