foto_future.jpgThe Canadian trading company Future Electronics is the third largest distributor of electronic components worldwide, with more than 6,000 staff members employed in 220 subsidiaries spread over 34 countries. Future Electronics recently awarded WITRON Logistik + Informatik GmbH the order of planning and realizing the warehouse logistics of the new distribution center in Leipzig, Germany. Following the first automated distribution center in the USA, Future puts its trust again into the expertise of the Parkstein logistics provider for its distribution centre in Germany.

Operating since 2005, Future Electronics headquartered in Montreal, realized with Witron, a logistics centre in Memphis, Tennessee and has since been highly satisfied with the achieved results regarding cost effectiveness, efficiency, and quality; all leading to a successful return of investment. According to statements from the company, the state-of-the-art system in North America is said to be the showcase of the entire enterprise. Due to these positive experiences with Witron and the OPS – Order Picking Solution, Future decided to continue this successful partnership in the course of its European expansion.

The distribution centre, a 15.000 sqm Greenfield solution, will supply manufacturers of the electronics industry all over Europe as well as the Middle East with semi-conductors, passive contact components, LCD displays, wireless transmission media, RFID solution modules and a multitude of other electronic components.

The standardized and modular structured Witron tote picking system OPS (Order Picking System) has been chosen for the distribution centre in Leipzig because it is the best possible concept of handling a wide range of products. The articles will be provided and picked order- and sequence-related at 20 workstations by using the goods-to-man principle and then packed into dispatch cartons.

As a general contractor, Witron will be responsible for the design and implementation of all logistical components – IT, control system, conveyor system, and tote and pallet steel construction. The automated small parts warehouse which includes 10 automated storage and retrieval (AS/RS) crane aisles with 255,000 tote and 4,400 pallet locations will be able to store 66,000 different articles. The design of a double-deep rack structure enables an efficient and space-saving storage without any problems, despite a multitude of very small-volume articles. The daily output of the distribution centre will be 4,200 packages accounting for a total of 18,000 picks per day. The investment of the Witron delivery and performance scope amounts to 20.5 million Euros. Productive use is planned for the beginning of 2010.

Witron Logistik + Informatik GmbH was founded in 1971, with its headquarters in Parkstein, Bavaria, Germany. With over 35 years of experience and 2,000 projects under its belt, Witron ranks among the industry leaders in the design and implementation of automated logistic systems. In addition to providing design and systems integration, Witron acts as general contractor, with overall responsibility for project cost, timeline, and functionality during all project phases through installation and ramp-up.
