vicam-11.jpgNew from Vitronic is VICAM-ssi2, a high-speed, line-scan camera for use in automated parcel handling systems. Compact, light and energy efficient, it captures high-resolution images of parcel labels, enabling high-speed, automated parcel sortation. VICAM-ssi2 is lightweight and cost effective, making it suitable for a wide range of applications.
Using VICAM-ssi2, operators can achieve read rates approaching 100% and identify dirty, damaged or marked codes, human written address information and supplier numbers. This leads to previously impossible levels of parcel handling efficiency.

VICAM-ssi2 features an advanced, high-speed focussing mechanism with variable lens types, which allows the camera to capture quality images of parcels travelling at speeds of 4.5 metres per second. This accelerates throughput while maintaining the read rate. An LED illumination unit automatically adjusts light intensity to suit different belt speeds and object orientations. This ensures images are clear, allowing the OCR software to locate labels, codes and addresses (regions of interest) immediately.

VICAM-ssi2 benefits from low energy consumption, achieved through a combination of highly efficient LED’s, an optimised lens and an automatic standby mode that drops power requirements to just 25W. This will make it popular with companies that want to protect the environment and reduce energy costs.

Malcolm Smith, Vitronic’s UK Sales Manager, is positive; “VICAM-ssi2 is ideal for large or small volume applications, making it highly versatile. Users can configure multiple units to read all six sides of a parcel for optimum speed and efficiency. All VICAM-ssi2’s components are modular, accessible and simple to maintain, reducing the need for external servicing. In addition, VICAM-ssi2 constantly monitors and records its operating status. This makes for swift problem identification and resolution. The device is compatible with VIPAC, Vitronic’s parcel recognition system.”
